Just like that, it’s Week 1 in the NFL. We’ve hit the earliest Labor Day possible. Summer has come to an end, folks. While we wave goodbye to the sunshine and warm days, we welcome tailgates, crisp air, turkey legs, and steaming hot chocolate.
The opening week of the NFL regular season features several exciting matchups, including a Sunday night clash between the Bills and Ravens in Buffalo. The Detroit Lions enter as 2.5-point underdogs against the Green Bay Packers! From a fan’s viewpoint—and a betting perspective—the options for wagering are as endless as the Cheesecake Factory menu.

What is a Teaser Bet?
A teaser is a type of parlay bet where the bettor purchases extra points from the sportsbook, leading to adjusted payouts. Different varieties of teasers exist; we can place a 6-point teaser or even a 10-point teaser. The options are limitless if you consider adding multiple legs to the wager.
Understanding Basic Strategy Teasers
Welcome to the basic strategy teaser. It’s straightforward: we tease only two teams using a 6-point teaser. How do we determine which teams to tease?
Our objective is to tease through the crucial numbers of 3 and 7. With a 6-point teaser, we focus on betting favorites within the range of (-7.5) to (-8.5) and tease them down to (-1.5) to (-2.5). If we’re teasing an underdog, we look for odds between (+1.5) and (+2.5). Once we add 6 points, we’ll have underdogs surpassing a touchdown at (+7.5) to (+8.5).
Potential Teaser Games for Week 1
Dallas Cowboys (+8) at Philadelphia Eagles (-8) Total: 47.5
Everyone seems eager to tease the Eagles down to a mere 2-point favorite. Following Dallas’ trade of Micah Parsons, it’s tough to argue that they can stay competitive against the reigning Super Bowl Champions.
Pittsburgh Steelers (-2.5) at New York Jets (+2.5) Total: 38.5
Sometimes, letting the numbers do the talking is the best approach. It’s wise to select a game with a low point total for teasing since our 6 points make a bigger impact relative to the total score.
That said, Aaron Rodgers is likely to be focused and could run up the score if the game starts to slip away.
Las Vegas Raiders (+2.5) at New England Patriots (-2.5) Total: 43.5
I’m a fan of the Raiders’ running game with rookie Ashton Jeanty. However, if they find themselves trailing early due to Drake Maye’s strong performance, the Patriots might secure a victory by more than a touchdown. The point total remains relatively low—let’s keep an eye on this matchup.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-2.5) at Atlanta Falcons (+2.5) Total: 47.5
This game features a divisional home underdog, a positive indicator for betting on league parity. However, it’s important to note that the point total is relatively high.
Tennessee Titans (+8) at Denver Broncos (-8) Total: 42.5
We’re looking at a low point total of 42.5 alongside a solid home favorite. We can tease down to under a field goal. Good luck, Cam Ward, as he faces one of the toughest defenses in the league.
San Francisco 49ers (-2.5) at Seattle Seahawks (+2.5) Total: 43
This matchup looks promising on paper. Like the Atlanta vs. Tampa game, we see a divisional home underdog that can be teased up, and the total is 4.5 points less. Still, I have my eyes on other games that I find more appealing. The Niners will likely have some frustrations to release.
Detroit Lions (+2.5) at Green Bay Packers (-2.5) Total: 47
Historically, Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions excels in Week 1, and this line seems off. The impact of Micah Parsons’ absence accounts for 2 points in the Cowboys game, but how quickly can he integrate into the new team?
Minnesota Vikings (-1.5) at Chicago Bears (+1.5) Total: 44.5
Finally, we have another divisional clash, and I’m hesitant to take part in this one. Set for Monday night, the Bears could show significant improvement and organization under Ben Johnson.
What can we expect from the new Vikings quarterback, J.J. McCarthy?
